This PC version of Magic: The Gathering is the only adaptation of the CCG tabletop game that has no reoccurring fees (unlike Magic: The Gathering Online) but largely keeps the the same structure and gameplay (unlike Magic: The Gathering Battlegrounds. The full game and patches can be found on Home of the Underdogs

Containing, with expansions, most cards from Fourth Edition, Unlimited, Antiquities, Legends, Arabian Nights, Astral, and The Dark available for play through the single player version of the game, one-on-one AI duels, multiplayer, and booster pack tournaments. In addition to these there are some cards that were created specifically for the PC game, all have randomized abilities like "tap X random creatures in play".

[edit] Single Player

The single player version of the card game takes place in the world Shandalar. Shandalar is little more than a large island dotted with towns and buildings. The area is randomly generated and through out it is covered by the five terrains that the card game draws it's magic from (Forest, Island, Mountain, Swamp, Plains). Each terrain is controlled by a wizard of the same color and their minions. While traveling over each land type you are attacked by those that control it. These minions will chase you but once you are powerful enough they will begin to run from you. They are bound by laws. Not unlike the old belief that crossing state lines you'll get away from Cops, no minion can go far into another area. This is one of the best way to avoid fighting early in the game. As you travel you consume food. Once you run out of food you starve much like Real Life.

Once you come into contact with one of the minions a duel will begin. A visual representation of the table top version comes up complete with deck pile, graveyard, and play area for both players. The game begins and is subject to the exact same rules as MTG, so I'll leave it at that.

There are towns to visit through out Shandalar. In these towns you can buy new common or uncommon cards, edit one of three of your decks, buy food, or speak to a wise man. By speaking to wise men you can gain quest that award jewels, mana links (Extra start life), or new cards. Quest vary from taking a message to another town, taking a spell to another town, or defeating a local minion.
