Diablo: Darkness, Decay and various Graphic malfunctions
Diablo has always been one of those games that leads into something far greater: You know the ones, the ones with the great plot twise at the end, the diabolical plans, the infestation of a once clean land. What interests me about Diablo, however, is that it appears to be a prequel, rather then a game that spawned a sequel. Diablo itself is an incredible game, but one can not begin to harness the power of the intricate plot. What ets me about Diablo is that it throws the templated plot out the window: Good is not always good, bad is not always bad: Infact, hell itself opens up within the mighty cathedral of God itself! When the game opens, availability is made between the classes of the strong, mighty warrior, the agile rouge or the wise mage: All of whom will take part in one of the darkest stories ever told. From the moment they step foot in the town, the sense is made of the great evils: The town is dark, and an errie music plays. The town itself contains many characters, each with their own personality: A wise sage of whom more then what his wise words speak of remain a mystery, A drunkard mentally scarred by a fierce demon within the labarynth of the cathedral, a young orpphan child narrowly saved from torture by hundreds of fowl creatures, and a witch who remains on the outskirts of town, stocked in the mystical black arts. Only you can save the town, nay, all of Sanctuary from the great lord of terror, Diablo. Although little is known of his presence, much of it is felt, as you venture into the labrynth filled with undead sorcerors, fierece goat clans, and mighty untold legends. Do you have what it takes to hold the Lord of Terror in the prison that so narrowly imprisoned him untill now?
8.7 Presentation
The great simplicity of the scheme may also be its downfall: While evrything is easily accesable , many parts are not covered as well as in its sequel, and the manual is not the tome enclosed with 2.
7.6 Graphics
Lets get straight to the point: The graphics are poor, even for someone who can't utelise hardware accelerators. Such as can be expected for a game of such old origin.
9.2 Sound
The sound is not all that great, its not all that good to listen to, however it captures the mood perfectly, wether it bee a desolate town, or a dungeon filled with skelatal mage's.
8.9 Gameplay
Gameplay is fun the first time around, seeking out the quests and searching for the warlords lurking within the dungeon, however one can easily find the next dungeon to difficult for ones level.
8.7 Lasting Appeal
The game can last forvever, but is also restricting. you can only gain so much gold, so you can not achieve riches, and there are stat caps, however there is always new dungeons to explore.
8.2 OVERALL
