It has been 3 years since EA Sports purchased the rights to the National football league. Since then, EA has had no motivation to improve their Madden franchise to any large degree. Now APF 2K8 comes along and reminds us that there is still great football to be played out there. Anyone who loved the NFL 2K series should fall in love with this game. As long as you can stand the fact that there is not NFL teams in the game. You do get to choose from 240 NFL legends. You create your team getting 2 Gold Legends to choose from, 3 Silver, and more Bronze level guys. The customization is great for the teams. You can make some very nice, real looking teams and uniforms. The rest of the team is filled with fictional players who are simply average. The gameplay is amazing. The players run, throw, tackle, and kick just the way those legends would have. Its basically a suped up version of the NFL 2K5 gameplay engine with many new animations and effects that gives you a real football experience. Don't get scared when you first load up the game, you build your own team but there is exibition, practice, and options. You can edit the team you create and change legends if you'd like. You can also create multiple teams. The presentation is excellent! Many replays, a halftime show that shows game footage (same with post-game) and a great real life feel just like 2K5 but better. The only negatives are the fact that you can only play as your created teams, and you can not switch sides and play both offenses. If you can handle a game without that and without NFL teams, get ready to have your world rocked. One solid footbal game.
